Set up 6 years ago Dementia Friendly Parishes around the Yealm is a ground breaking project for people with dementia and their families in Wembury, Brixton, Newton & Noss, Yealmpton and Holbeton.
We employ a part time coodinator who supports people with dementia and their families to remain active and involved in their community by joining community groups and making new friends reducing isolation, loneliness and stigma. The Coordinator also raises awareness about dementia across the area enabling all community groups and organisations to become dementia friendly so that people with dementia and their families feel involved in their local communty.
Currently the project is linked with over 30 people with dementia and their families involved in many different inclusive and fulfilling activities from gentle exercise, craft and hobbies, reading, singing, walking and monthly afternoon tea.
People with dementia have a sense of belonging and feel valued with their families and in their communty through this project
We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our service to people with dementia and their families
Thank you for your support and good luck!
