About us
Celebrating ten years of improving the lives of people with dementia and their families!
Set up in 2012 Dementia Friendly Parishes around the Yealm is a nationally recognised, ground-breaking project supported by grants, donations and charitable initiatives like this one at the SeaMoor Lotto
During our lifetime, your generous support has helped make a big difference to around 150 South Hams families living with dementia. Working across the five parishes of Wembury, Brixton, Newton & Noss Mayo, Yealmpton and Holbeton - and more widely – we’ve used this funding to employ a Project Co-ordinator and a Support Worker.
We are passionate that people with dementia and their families should remain active and involved in community life for as long as possible. To do this the charity encourages, supports and, when safe to do so, runs activity and interest groups open to everyone in the local area.
Throughout the recent Covid-19 pandemic, when it hasn’t been possible to run our group activities or meet face to face, our team has been using social media, mobile phones and video calls to stay with these families on their journey. We’ve cemented friendships with practical help and advice, reducing isolation, loneliness and stigma that often accompanies a diagnosis of dementia.
Your support allows us to continue to raise awareness about dementia, offering training and advice so that community groups and organisations can become dementia-friendly. We are honoured to sit on the Prime Minister’s Task and Finish Group for Rural Dementia. Interest in Dementia Friendly Parishes around the Yealm also results in invitations to be guest speakers at national and international conferences.
We need your help so we can continue to offer and expand our service to people with dementia and their families
Thank you for your support and good luck with the SeaMoor Lotto!
Yours sincerely
