About our cause
Bigbury News is more than just a parish magazine full of the same old adverts and a list of this month's events. Whilst this remains a much loved and valued service for the community, the new Bigbury News aims to do more to find common ground between our disparate groups of readers - residents, second home owners, businesses and visitors. The (new) Bigbury News represents the building blocks of a modern archive of who we are and what we do. I took on the role of Editor for Bigbury News in February this year and am in awe of the depth and breadth of the stories of human endeavour and the extraordinary wild life in this idyllic corner of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Bigbury News does this by providing: more content from our archives about our history; insights into the people who live and work in Bigbury now; recognition of the work of volunteers and service crews that protect and serve our community; backgrounds and activities of our local farming families; reports on the charitable works carried out by ou parishioners; introductions to all the environmental and conservation teams that work here and reports on the many social events that take place in Bigbury.
We would like to work more closely with the Bigbury Community website to provide an integrated and easily accessed information database about our parish and its modern day social history as well as the important up to the minute information needed to keep us safe, well and happy.
We rely on advertising income to publish our monthly full colour magazine. All works are carried out entirely by volunteers which hugely subsidises the cost of production and distribution. Many readers provide additional donations to keep us going. Any funding obtained in excess of our current production costs will be distributed to local charities supported by parishioners.
We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our service! We would like use existing new Bigbury News content, historical archives and information on the website to catalogue all available information in an easy-to-access portal. We would like to undertake video and audio interviews of readers and contributors to develop a comprehensive insight into Bigbury for posterity. Along the lines of 'Talking Heads' we hope that these video interviews will form the basis of a possible book on the People of Bigbury and a valued and facinating insight into who 'we' are. We want to have a YouTube channel and Mail Chimp weekly communication for Bigbury eNews (for local events, and security alerts as well as pointers to new posts on the website).
We have leased a commercial printer capable of producing anything form postcards and greeting cards to flyers, booklets and calendars. We would like to take on fund-raising projects using this facility to not only cover the costs of production of Bigbury News but help local fund raisers with their projects by using our printer services.
Thank you for your support and good luck!
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Louise Wainwright
